What’s the scope of the role?_**

The Technical Governance Authority - Electrical role is aimed at the senior or principal Engineer level for those with vast experience in electrical systems, able to draw on other expertise’s within and out with the business as needs arise. The Technical Governance Authority - Electrical role sits within the Governance and Support Team, who collectively set standards, monitor conformity and provide technical governance, oversight and support to operational assets and our growth pipeline of design / construction projects within EDF Renewables UK & Ireland.

The role covers the whole lifecycle from the design phase of development and construction projects, operation, to decommissioning and demolition.

What do you need to be great at this role?_**

You will have experience in a wide range of electrical systems and apparatus operating at HV & LV voltages: Transformers, switchgear, cabling, private wire distribution, Generators, power electronics.

Experience with project engineering and/ or asset operations is desirable, as would knowledge of electrical systems used on wind, solar, and battery storage assets.

You will be required to work with external bodies and lead activity undertaken by third parties such as consultants and establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders and external organisations. The role may require occasionally visits to EDF onshore and offshore sites within the UK & Ireland to inspect assets.
- Providing leadership to the wider engineering discipline providing expertise and focus on all matters related to the design, quality, operation, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure associated with renewable energy projects and operational sites.
- Responsible for setting internal standards for the compliance/conformity with relevant legislation, standards and industry good practice.
- Support the standardisation and improvement of technical specifications and other technical documents within the wider Engineering team and EDF Renewables.
- Embedding the consideration of risk and lifetime costs in all Electrical Engineering activities
- Ensure that operational learning and operational requirements are key considerations in the origination, design and construction of electrical infrastructure
- Be the Technical Governance Authority for engineering aspects of Electrical assets in design reviews, change assessments, operational assurance assessments and life extension assessments.
- Support on the implementation and embedding of new governance.
- Support on technical investigations, non-conformances, and other requests which are escalated.
- Support the business in finding robust and innovative value adding solutions to technical needs through continuous improvement, and by adding value solutions.
- Interface with EDF Group and other technical design authorities within the industry to obtain the necessary specialist support to resolve technical issues or provide specialist instruction for engineering activities.

What skills/experience do you need?_**

CEng status and a membership of a relevant engineering professional body is desirable.

You will be a highly experienced and knowledgeable engineer, with at least 10 years in electrical engineering sector with experience of managing risks and challenges, preferably in the renewable energy sector with experience in the following;
- NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable.
- Wind Turbine Generators
- Transformers
- LV and HV Switchgear
- Electrical Protection
- Site Power distribution
- Earthing and Lightning protection systems
- Back up generation
- Grid connection agreements
- Grid Ancillary services
- Corrosion protection systems.

It’s essential that you have a strong commitment to safety, health, environment, and quality.

Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).

Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.

Full UK driving licence.

Excellent English (oral and written) communication skills.
