**The Role**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Home/School Liaison Officer to join the Academy. Playing a prominent role in delivering outstanding pastoral care, you will work alongside the Deputy Head, Pastoral and the Pastoral Team to support families of children on roll at the school.

The role has many facets and will require considerable skills in liaising with parents/carers, students, teachers and other stakeholders, including external agencies with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships a key to the success of the role. The Home/School Liaison Officer will frequently be the person tackling situations as they arise thus a calm head and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently are essential.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and have the highest expectations for yourself and others. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team and prioritise workload accordingly. You will be joining a team of highly skilled and committed professionals who are relentless in the pursuit of pastoral excellence.

**This post is 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (term time plus 1 week non-pupil days and 1 week during school closure period)**

**Some of your key responsibilities will include**:

- To make visits off site to families and alternative education providers. (Own transport is essential).
- To provide direct support for parents/carers of students with difficulties in order to support the work undertaken in school.
- To promote and facilitate pupils’ attendance at school.
- To help establish and maintain positive relationships between school staff and parents/carers and encourage the consistent use of behaviour management techniques at home.
- To provide a range of practical workshops for parents/carers designed to promote and develop positive behaviour management skills at home.
- To establish and co-ordinate links with a variety of agencies, including Educational Psychologists, who work with pupils who have difficulties.
- To encourage the inclusion of pupils in a mainstream setting by demonstrating the use of positive behaviour management techniques designed to develop the pupil’s ability to engage positively in school.
- To make a practical contribution to the implementation of agreed ‘Partnership Plans’ designed to support a pupil’s Individual Education Plan and/or the development of positive behaviour management systems in the home setting, that are developed to support any school-based initiatives to promote and reinforce appropriate engagement.
- To plan and deliver a range of practical school-based workshops for parents/carers.
- To discuss with parents/carers, within the home context, support strategies designed to encourage and develop appropriate engagement in a variety of settings.
- To model alongside parents/carers activities designed to develop pupil’s problem-solving, listening and social skills.
- To produce a variety of resources for the pupil/parent/school designed to support an individual’s behaviour programme and/or support home/school positive engagement.
- To participate in the evaluation and review of the agreed support for students in conjunction with other staff, e.g. be present at after school meetings of staff to join together support plans across Pastoral and SEND departments.

- Successful experience of working with children in an education, health or social care environment.
- Good working knowledge of policies relating to behaviour, inclusion and SEN.
- Excellent communication skills with young people, families and professionals and the ability to establish respectful and trusting relationships.
- The ability to write detailed and complex reports and letters.
- The ability to negotiate effectively with adults and children and to exercise influence.
- Knowledge and experience of developing individual education plans.
- Excellent understanding of child development and learning processes.
