The Clinical Lead, Consultant Respiratory Medicine will provide the clinical and professional input to all clinical aspect for the planning of a national targeted lung cancer screening programme. The main tasks of planning work include: Outline of the potential benefits and challenges of introducing a targeted lung screening programme in Wales. This to include an assessment of activity, the number of lung cancers identified as well as incidental findings, the number of interventions required and the value of earlier diagnosis. The proposed national pathway that will involve clinical engagement, new technology and data and digital considerations based on a once for Wales approach.

Development of proposed quality assurance metrics for a national targeted lung cancer screening service. Assessment of the estimated costs to establish a programme and expected annual running costs including number of staff required, implications for health boards and value for money considerations. Consideration of the role and integration of smoking cessation service and anything else that is considered fundamental to a lung screening programme. Assessment of how the programme could be phased taking into consideration equity of access across Wales.
