Applications are invited from an enthusiastic, highly motivated and suitably qualified individual for this key Operational support position to work as an Associate Practitioner Healthcare Scientist within the Blood Transfusion department at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT).

Our Blood Transfusion Team are looking for an experienced, motivated and flexible individual to work as an integral part of our busy blood transfusion service at Kent & Canterbury Hospital.

The post holder will work within all areas of Haematology/BT with a specific remit to ensure, under the supervision of the Biomedical Scientists, the implementation of ISO 15189 standards and the ongoing compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations in particular the traceability of all blood products.

This will be achieved by carrying out technical, scientific or quality tasks using wide ranges of practical and theoretical knowledge. The applicant must be a good team player with excellent, demonstrable communication and inter-personnel skills, have a keen eye for detail to be able to carry out repetitive tasks.

As an Associate Practitioner (AP) you will contribute positively towards the provision of a clinically safe & professional Blood Transfusion laboratory service and undertake a wide variety of duties to support our Biomedical Scientists.

To contribute to providing a professional clinical laboratory service by working in the Blood Science department and undertaking duties to support the Biomedical Scientists in the examination of biological samples, with a specific remit to support the Blood Transfusion Laboratory and support the on-going compliance with ISO 15189 and BSQR standards. This is achieved by carrying out clinical, technical, scientific or quality tasks using a wide range of practical and theoretical knowledge following Standard Operational Procedures and taking responsibility for completion of tasks and areas being operated by the post holder.

The post holder must demonstrate excellent communication and inter-personal skills and will be expected to provide supervision and assistance in training apprentices, Assistant Healthcare Scientists, Senior Assistant Healthcare Scientists and Trainee BMS staff when required and provide comment on procedures and possible service developments.
