Our Regulation and Enforcement team is at the forefront of change across our city. And we’re developing at pace. Partnering with colleagues, external agencies and citizens alike, we’ve created a management team of passionate individuals who lead our work in Bereavement and Registration Services.

This could be your opportunity to lead the Service. There’ll be opportunities to support a delivery-focused teams, tackling multiple issues or challenges at the same time and demonstrating creativity in finding solutions.
- With a diverse population of circa 1.2million people, bereavement and registration services deliver very significant numbers of burials, cremations, and statutory registrations of births, deaths, and marriages etc. whilst ensuring the needs of all communities are met.
- You will be crucial to delivering long planned changes to deliver new future operating models and will be supported by the excellent team of experienced officers delivering the service.
- Bereavement Services has significant income budget of £12million and expenditure budget of £8million. Therefore, the ability to manage large budgets and understand income generation is essential. You will deliver a portfolio of operational and financial activities through managing teams to deliver burial and cremation services throughout the City.
- Registration Services is governed by joint processes between the national General Registration Office and Birmingham City Council and must deliver statutory functions within legislative time frames. We are the largest Register Office in the UK. Therefore, the need to be familiar with regulatory and statutory service delivery is essential.

We’d like to hear about your strengths in creating cohesive teams to deliver income targets and statutory services, as well as your programme and stakeholder management capability. We’ll provide you with opportunities to influence policy development and demonstrate your performance management and monitoring skills.

This is about managing multiple stakeholders and multi-agency partnerships. Experience of delivering services within complex statutory frameworks and working directly with elected members through committee structures is a pre-requisite.
