Higher Assistant Psychologist

This is a fixed term, full time position for 12 months.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate (with 2:1 or above), ideally with previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist, to work within urgent care psychology in our learning disabilities service in South Tyneside (Rose Lodge).

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals who require more intensive support due to severe difficulties with challenging behaviour and/or mental health difficulties. You will be required to support the team to implement Positive Behaviour Support in order to understand behaviour that challenges, as well as other complementary psychological therapies. This will require you to have skills in preparing detailed notes reviews, data collection, report writing and contributing during MDT meetings. You will work alongside a Principal Clinical Psychologist and trainees from the Newcastle and Teesside Doctoral Training Programmes.

You will contribute to the delivery of psychological research and development, including service evaluation and quality audit.

The post holder’s main duties are to assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of psychological services in the pathway; providing psychological assessment and specific interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently within the limits agreed with the psychology supervisor.

The post holder will produces assessment and intervention professional reports.

The post holder will support the service in the delivery of training initiatives.

The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, literature reviews, service development and other research initiatives within the pathway or wider service.

The post holder will receive direct weekly management and clinical supervision from a Consultant or Principal Psychologist.

The post holder will show initiative to work independently to an appropriate level.

The post-holder will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy,
kindness, respect and dignity.
