The Mortuary and Bereavement Department are looking for 1 x full-time and 1 x part-time Mortuary & Bereavement Assistant to provide support to the department. Consideration will be given to part time and job share for this role.

The department comprises a small but dedicated team of professionals, which also supports the Medical Examiners team at Dorset County Hospital.

**The Mortuary & Bereavement Assistants will**:

- Undertake a variety of activities associated with the care of deceased patients including reception, transfers, identifications, and viewings of the deceased.
- Ensure that documentation and electronic records are created accurately and maintained appropriately.
- Ensure that deceased and their relatives are treated, at all times, with respect and dignity.
- Prepare legal documents and other paperwork necessary following a death
- Liaise with and assist Doctors, Coroner’s Officers, Registrars and other professionals in carrying out duties related to the death
- Communicate effectively with bereaved families and next of kin to ensure all processes are followed in a timely manner

The Mortuary & Bereavement Department at Dorset County Hospital are a kind, supportive team that provides professional care to the deceased, families, friends and next of kin. The team comprises of 1 x Mortuary and Bereavement Services Manager, 1 x Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician, 1 x Bereavement Officer and 2 x Mortuary & Bereavement Assistants. They work closely with the West Dorset Medical Examiner Service which is also based within the Department.

The Mortuary and Bereavement Assistants will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Mortuary and Bereavement Service ensuring dignity and respect of the deceased is always maintained and all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
