**About the role**

We are looking for a Statutory Returns Manager to join the versatile Strategic Planning & Change team.
- Manage timely and accurate responses to external requests for the University's student-related data, including statutory returns to HESA, OfS and other regulatory bodies, audits and requests under the Freedom of Information Act.
- Provide support for University's transformational data projects, including smooth transition to the HESA Data Futures requirements

**Principal duties and responsibilities**:
The role will encompass all of the following, but the balance of duties and responsibilities will be determined in discussion with the post holder's line manager:

- Own the delivery of the team's key statutory reporting responsibilities
- Manage preparation of the University's statutory student data related returns, specifically HESA Student, HESES, ITT, ILR, AOR and Unistats returns, ensuring that these are compliant and delivered in a timely manner and completed with accuracy
- Lead data-related liaison with regulators, funding bodies, etc in response to audits and consultations
- Manage responses to internal queries or audits related to returns, to maintain high confidence about ongoing accuracy, quality and risk minimisation
- Ensure implementation of robust & comprehensive assurance checks including related sign-off procedures, documentation, and sampling & reconciliation processes
- Support provision of student data as required under the Freedom of Information Act, liaising with colleagues in Governance and Legal Services as necessary
- Oversee effective preparation for HESA Data Futures

**Essential experience required**:

- Comprehensive understanding of annual OfS HESES returns and HESA individualised student returns
- Knowledge of HE student data and record systems (eg Banner)
- Knowledge of the HE funding landscape
- Highly numerate and analytical
- Significant expertise working with leading tools to retrieve, manage, manipulate, visualise, analyse and report on business data (eg Power BI, SQL, Alteryx)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence at a senior management level
- Presentation of clear, intuitive data-informed outputs - written, tables, visual
- Able to scope, plan and manage the delivery of data and analytical projects.
- Strong organisation and project management and delegation skills with great attention to detail.
- Able to motivate, coach and support team members and direct reports
- Experience of preparing and submitting statutory returns supported by robust assurance processes
- Experience of developing and implementing robust processes, procedures and working practices for effective and efficient delivery
