Finance Student Placement

DHL Express UK Ltd are currently looking to recruit a Finance Placement on a 12-month fixed-term placement contract. Throughout the placement you will receive exposure to the wider finance teams along with other key business departments, increasing your overall business knowledge and acumen.
**Main Tasks and Responsibilities**
As part of our commitment to your development we will be offering a varied and challenging 12 month undergraduate industrial placement. It is a “hands on” role where you will have the opportunity to take on critical business tasks and support with key business projects. Working alongside a variety of experienced finance professionals, gaining access and exposure to activities and tasks covered by core finance teams including customer accounting, governance, financial control and finance quality, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain varied experience within the finance department of the worlds most international company.
Throughout the 12 month placement, tasks and activities may include:
**Customer Accounting**
- Understand the E2E process from customer paperwork submitted for Customs clearance through to the billed invoice to assist in building the knowledge in the Customer Accounting teams and linking this process knowledge to our queries.
- Work with UK Customs for Inbound Duty and VAT queries and Regional Customs for Outbound Duty and VAT queries to understand the root-cause of Customs clearance errors.
- Provide efficient and timely response to customer queries relating to billing queries
**Governance**
- To produce month end journals for input through the General Ledger ensuring that the integrity of DHL’s financial reporting is maintained.
- Process and keep track of 3rd party customer refunds and rebates - Process and keep track of inter-company balance transfers
- To liaise with the Duty and VAT team, DHL Aviation and HMRC on all of our D&V reconciliations to ensure agreed policies are followed.
**Financial Control**
- Support the annual budgeting cycle, ensuring a robust and efficient process and that all deadlines are achieved
- Work with the Controlling team, supporting all DHL Express UK functions with insightful, quantitative reporting and analysis to be used in the decision making process
- Ensure compliance with regional finance rules, processes and deadlines
**Finance Quality**
- Identify root causes from analysis and propose corrective actions, identifying and communicating opportunities to demonstrate Best Demonstrated Practices
- Maintain action tracker to monitor progress against goals and share monthly updates with CA SMT regarding progress against Performance, Quality and Efficiency objectives

**Skills, Experience and Educational Background**:
- currently enrolled in a university degree programme within a Finance, Economics or business discipline with an industrial placement year
- Obtained a minimum of a 2:1 or on track to do so
- Excellent skills in Excel, PPT and word
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service and stakeholder relationship skills
- Good presentation skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- A team player
- A desire to learn
- Must be results oriented, customer focused and have a drive for excellence
- Must be proactive and adaptable, with a deep concern for accuracy
