**Overall Purpose**
The school library is at the heart of the school's resources and as such aims to support the curriculum. Housed in a state of the art new building, completed in 2021, the main collection boasts over 12,000 books. The Library also provides access to a collection of e-books and audiobooks as well as a range of selected online resources to support academic study. The library catalogue is centrally networked and resources are indexed to provide easy access to the material available. Emphasis is on providing what pupils and staff need as quickly as possible, whether the material required is academic or recreational.
The Assistant Librarian is responsible to the Deputy Head Academic but under the immediate day to day charge of the Librarian to undertake the following duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Librarian. They deputise for the Librarian as needed
**Duties**
- Support the Librarian in ensuring that the Library plays a pro-active and essential role in supporting the curriculum and research as well as promoting independent learning, literacy and a love of reading.
- Lock and unlock the Library in accordance with its opening times.
- Supervise the library facilities when being used by the pupils.
- Foster a positive working atmosphere within the library and oversee pupils in private st
- Assist pupils in the selection of suitable materials to support their studies.
- Support teaching staff in the selection and preparation of appropriate materials for class
- visits.
- Oversee the use of the photocopier, printer and PCs. Maintain their operati
- Keep up-to-date with the school’s ICT systems and advise staff and pupils on the use of these resources. These resources include but are not limited to Microsoft Office, the online library catalogue and Planet Estream.
- Create and maintain display and promotional material to encourage recreational
- reading and to support the school curriculum.
- Undertake all routines and duties in connection with the day-to-day operation of the Li
- This includes: the issue and discharge of items; dealing with readers’ enquiries; general clerical work connected with recording and checking issues, overdue books, registering readers and making reservations; shelving, tidying and repair of stock; processing new stock and receiving periodicals.

**Knowledge / Experience**
- Previous experience of working in a Library or similar environment. (D)
