London, United Kingdom Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Full time

We are seeking highly experienced Band 6 Anaesthetic Practitioners to join our Anaesthetic Nursing / Practitioner Team at Lewisham Hospital. If you have an NMC or HPCC registration and have completed an Anaesthetics Course, consider yourself to be self-motivated and enthusiastic and possess excellent communication skills then this could be the post for you.

We have 11 theatres across the Main Theatre Suite and in the Riverside Treatment Centre (dedicated Day Surgery). With a renewed focus on optimising elective surgery throughput following the Covid-19 Pandemic as well as the emergency surgery remit so we are extremely busy.

We have a variety of posts working 24/7 and also more regular working hours in Day Surgery. We are very happy to consider flexible working and part time hours.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of evidence-based care to patients throughout their operative journey working closely with our Anaesthetics Team, within the guidelines of the Trust, the HCPC and the NMC.

The post holder will provide support and guidance to theatre team colleagues within the clinical area and will assist with the training and development of junior staff and students.

The post holder will take responsibility for running operating lists in conjunction with and in the absence of a Senior Theatre Practitioner and will also cover the anaesthetic bleep holder role.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a community focused provider of local and acute care, providing high quality services to over one million people living across the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley. With a turnover of around £700 million, we provide services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham and a range of community settings in Lewisham. We also provide some services at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup.

As an organisation, we’ve made significant improvements for patients and staff in the last two and-a-half years. This is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection (from February 2020), which found improvements across the organisation and gave us an improved rating of “Good” in the Well-Led and Effective domains, in addition to the rating of “Good” that we had already achieved in the Caring domain. Our staff culture change programme has been key to the Trust’s improvement journey, as we’ve stabilised our workforce by reducing vacancy rates and improving staff retention. We’ve also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams.
