Barts Charity are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit a Financial Controller on a permanent basis. The vacancy has arisen as a result of exciting internal changes. Barts Charity is dedicated to supporting improvements in healthcare andtransformative research with primary focus on issues that matter to the people of East London, one of the most diverse and fastest-growing areas of the UK.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Resources, and as a senior member of the Finance Team, you will take charge of Barts Charity’s Financial and Regulatory Controls. You will be responsible for the integrity of the General Ledger and lead the preparationof the Financial Statements and manage the Audit process, whilst driving the use of systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency of processes.

We, at Barts Charity work in partnership with the NHS and local research institutes, among others, to fund high quality, ground-breaking research, innovative patient care projects and NHS staff wellbeing initiatives. Among NHS Charities, we are the secondlargest funder and by research spend, are among the top five funders of medical research among members of the Association of Medical Research Charities. We make new awards totalling approximately £30m each year and as part of our new five-year strategy, weaim to award even more.

This role offers a full-time opportunity with an excellent benefits package, including 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), an 8% pension contribution and private healthcare insurance. This Financial Controller position will be based at Barts Charity’shead office near St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Central London and will offer hybrid working arrangements, with presence of two days per week required in the office.

**The key responsibilities of the Financial Controller will be**:

- Producing accurate, useful and timely financial accounts based on SORP.
- Ensuring compliance with finance-related statutory requirements - to include direct/indirect taxation and year end statutory reporting.
- Managing the statutory reporting to Charity Commission, Companies House, and HMRC including submitting quarterly VAT returns for the charity.
- Managing financial year-end audit and additional assurance audits.
- Maintaining and leveraging the Charity’s General ledger system (Business Central) to maximise efficiencies in data flow.
- Designing, implementing, and managing financial reporting processes including ensuring accurate month-end processing of transactional activities.
- Producing finance handbooks with detailed finance policies and procedures.
- Ensuring finance-related internal control procedures and processes for the safeguarding of all assets.
- Contributing to, and participating in, Board sub-committees such as Finance and Audit Committee as required.

**The successful person will have**:

- A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in the preparation of full statutory accounts and management of year end audit process.
- A background of working in the not-for-profit sector.
- Proven Technology proficiency (Business Central system experience desirable but not essential).
- Experience in the development and introduction of financial control processes.
- Strong communications skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate with a broad range of individuals.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to prioritise a diverse workload.
