**Job summary**:
If you would like to work within a small, multi-disciplinary team, conducting varied and valued work in human applied physiology, then this post could be for you. The vacancy is within the Environmental Medicine and Science supporting the Royal Navy and wider Ministry of Defence (MOD) through applied research and consultancy in occupational health and environmental protection.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:

- Engage with customers to establish and deliver research and consultancy requirements.
- Design and lead physiological research to address pertinent issues in the Royal Navy and wider MOD, including prepare protocols for scientific and ethical review.
- Plan, conduct, analyse and report the results of tasked projects to inform evidence-based recommendations, advice and guidance.
- Designing and delivering workshops on appropriate topics within applied physiology such as physical training, and environmental physiology.
- Provide specialist advice to Service and civilian authorities to mitigate environmental risks, support operations or assist investigations.
- Writing and submitting scientific papers and representing the group at conferences and meetings

**Responsibilities**:

- Provision of expert advice in accordance with statutory law and MoD regulations
- Management of staff within a small team and quality assurance of their work
- Development of training materials relating to the primary role for Defence personnel
- Membership of MoD Committees

Depending on the needs of the task, the post holder will at times work independently and at other times collaboratively with team members or colleagues in other departments. The post holder will be required to engage with customers and stakeholders at all levels, including senior military and civilian personnel. The post requires occasional travel within the UK and sometimes overseas, each of which may include overnight stays on land and possibly at sea.

**Qualifications**

Formal training and a qualification in teaching and education, for example a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, would be an advantage.

Experience

A minimum of five years’ relevant experience working in applied physiology and / or human sciences is essential.

**Licences**:

- This role requires frequent travel to other sites, often out of working hours and at weekends. It is essential that the incumbent can drive and has a UK driving licence.**Qualifications**:
