**EV battery recycling: Process and Chemical Engineering Internship**

Are you looking for a role that directly supports the Global Net Zero Strategy to decarbonise our economy whilst working for an ethical GreenTech Start-up that will truly make a different to the global environment? We are looking to recruit a Chemical Process Engineer to join our research team at our EV battery recycling Technology Centre in Devon for a three-month internship this summer.

Altilium Metals has developed a closed loop process to recover scarce metals including lithium, nickel and cobalt from end-of-life electric vehicles (EV) batteries and other renewable energy storage systems. Recycling spent batteries reduces carbon emissions by 38% and material costs by 35% compared to virgin mining, while simultaneously lowering EV battery costs and driving widespread adoption of EVs.

Achieving net-zero is directly connected to the supply critical metals, as the energy transition is mineral intensive. The UK and Europe does not have significant domestic sources of critical metals for the energy transition, so the recycling of lithium-ion batteries is an opportunity to realise energy security.

We are building our Lithium-ion battery recycling business and teams to support the retrofit of our existing Hydrometallurgical Plant in Europe for processing 24,000 EVs per year of battery waste.

**The Role**

You will be required to conduct end-to-end leaching experiments from end of life lithium -ion batteries.

**Qualifications**: You will need to have experience in Biochemical Processing or Bio-Hydrometallurgy.

Altilium Metals Ltd is a UK “circular economy” supplier of critical metals to electric vehicle battery and other renewable energy storage system OEMs. We have unique knowledge and experience of the battery mineral economy, a solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) plant in Europe for extracting copper from mine tailings and a novel process for recycling spent batteries.

Altilium Metals' vision is to develop recycling technologies for mine waste and end-of-life lithium ion batteries to build a circular economy so that the significant amounts of metals needed for the energy transition already used in products and technologies are recovered cleanly and efficiently.
