This Senior Policy Advisor role sits within the Strategic Business Engagement Team in the Export Support Service (ESS) Policy and Analysis Hub. The team is responsible for targeted engagement with business and gathering of business intelligence to improve understanding of export issue for development of policy.
The ESS was launched publicly on 1 October 2021. The ESS is at the heart of the government’s international trade agenda and provides the long-term coordination of government services for UK exporters to both the EU and the rest of the world by identifying common issues and themes businesses face and leads cross-government consideration of policy or process solutions.
The post holder will coordinate engagement activity and gathering of business intelligence by the team in order to support the work of ESS Policy and Analysis Hub to resolve or ameliorate issues faced by UK exporters. This role would suit those interesting in working with business, development of policy and stakeholder engagement. You will gain a good understanding of international trade issues and the role of ESS in leading work across Government to support British exports.
Job description
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordinating implementation of stakeholder engagement plans for Task and Finish Groups and Policy Teams working on complex export issues, alongside leading on specific engagement workstreams
- Overseeing team extraction and dissemination of business intelligence related to exports from a wide range of sources for customers across ESS and DIT
- Ensuring key business intelligence tools and records are kept up to date and improved to meet changing requirements
- Building and managing stakeholder relations for the ESS, understanding the individual requirements of formal committees, BROs, specific businesses and the Devolved Administrations. Working collaboratively with colleagues from ESS, DIT and cross-Whitehall Communications teams ensuring continuity
- Identifying, developing and disseminating information and best practice with our client-facing staff, the Export Academy, teams across the Department and exporting teams across Government
- Line management responsibility for 1 x HEO with a possibility of another (TBC)
- Other - ad hoc duties such as time critical requests from Directors and DGs, planning and prioritising your and your team’s work as needed
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.
Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.
Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
DIT will cover travel costs/expenses to any office which is not your usual office location in line with departmental expenses policy. DIT will not cover commuting costs to your agreed office location.
