Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

We currently have Permanent and 12-month Fixed Term/Secondment opportunities.

Please note that there are 4 board spaces and 4 relief.

**The Role**

Remote health assessment and telephone triage is at the forefront of patient care with significant development ongoing in this specialist field to equip skilled practitioners to provide first class clinical care for the people of Scotland.

You will work as part of the Ambulance Control Centre (ACC) clinical team who provide emergency care to patients at Scottish Ambulance Service.

You will primarily be responsible for providing remote clinical assessment, via telephone and video consultation, providing advice to patients ensuring that their onward care is safe and appropriate to their needs.

By acting as a point of contact Clinical Advisors provide clinical support to the wider ACC through supporting Dispatch and Call taking processes and to the Operational crews who contact the ACC for Professional advice and support from scene. In addition, you will provide information to the wider health communities of Scotland for example GPs / Hospitals and other NHS organisations through the management of patient related enquiries or care planning.

You will use your clinical decision making skills to ensure that patients are safely assessed and receive the most appropriate ambulance response or alternative care pathway to meet their needs.

You will liaise with other healthcare providers to ensure that safe and effective pathways of care exist to meet the needs of special patient groups and patients with complex care pathways.

We are looking to further develop this exciting opportunity with specialist training in unscheduled care, mental health assessment, and remote health assessment. Clinical Advisors have continuous professional development incorporated into their role to ensure they are leading the way with patient care.

**The Person**

You will be a clinically focussed and driven professional, able to evidence your continuous professional development. You should have significant, demonstrable post registration experience, with previous experience in an ambulance service, acute or primary care setting. A paramedic or nurse with extended training skills such as acute illness or minor injury would be advantageous as would previous extended telephone triage knowledge and practice.

You should also be computer literate with good keyboard skills.

Note: You will be required to maintain your clinical registration and practice during your employment; time for this will be facilitated within the shift roster.

Typing test, Maths and clinical scenarios and competency-based interview. Further details will be provided in advance.

Informal enquires can be made to Angela Lorimer, Clinical Duty Manager
