We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Benefits Assessor working remotely in Solihull.
- A Basic DBS on the update service
- GCSES in Maths and English (A*-C/4-9) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications
- Recent experience of processing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims
- Experience in using databases to process benefit claims/following guidelines and procedures
- Experience in using Microsoft office packages

Duties of the role include:

- Assessing new claims/changes of circumstances for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction
- Ensuring the correct evidence/information is obtained in accordance with locally determined standards
- Issuing referrals and liaising with the Rent Officer as appropriate
- Determining the correctness of notification letters to customers/landlords as required by legislation
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation/computer systems/clerical procedures
- Liaising with other sections/departments/outside bodies
- Undertaking report checking and analysis, reporting any potentially fraudulent claims
- Maintaining security of all systems used
- Assisting in updating office procedures, training members of staff
- Producing high quality, accurate work to agreed performance levels, meeting agreed service standards, working with colleagues to ensure business needs are met
- Assisting with investigating/collating information for complex complaints/MP Enquiries
- Making appropriate revisions/decisions on reconsiderations in relation to Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction entitlement
- Assisting with the implementation of new legislation and budget announcements, reading government guidance, making recommendations what to test, developing test plans, carrying out the testing and reporting any issues
- Carrying out accuracy checking where required
- Assisting with the preparation of data for subsid/subsidy workbooks/audits when required
- Reviewing/analysing/making decisions on Specified and Supported Exempt Accommodation of all types
- Any other relevant duties as required

This position is a temporary role contracted for three months (temp to perm with a view to extend), working full time, paying £28.95ph.
