Personal Care Assistant for a Young Male Adult P/t@

Prudhoe, United Kingdom UKCIL Full time

**A young man in the Prudhoe area is looking to recruit an enabler to support him accessing his local community and further afield. The young man has a diagnosis of Autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- The family are looking for someone who understands that it will be necessary to take a person-centered approach to all activities this young man chooses to engage in. This will require a special set of skills as this young man can get anxious and is very vulnerable, therefore gaining his trust and building a positive relationship is a priority. The young man is becoming isolated and needs to start accessing his local community. He enjoys table tennis, cricket, pool & darts and loves art (his own characters, not looking at other people’s art) and rock music. He has a sarcastic sense of humour, so someone who doesn’t take offence would be helpful. He’s in a good place at the moment having found a fantastic outlet for his art 3 days a week but we need him to become more active, he is in a lot of pain from sitting too much. He finds team games quite difficult but going to the gym, table tennis club and other outlets /clubs which have a sporty nature would be good for him.
- He will find this transition quite difficult; his lack of social skills means he finds being around a lot of people very awkward, he will be very anxious & feel sick so will need coping strategies to help him deal with issues like this. Using public transport, if possible, within the time frame would be advantageous to his independence skills, maybe shopping for lunch, going to café’s etc so that he can start and deal with things that will help his future independence.
- These small building blocks will hopefully help him become less anxious about change, and dealing with new experiences, and be able to help motivate him. As his enabler, you will play an important role in creating a safe and supportive environment that promotes his social and emotional development. Family are looking for someone who possesses excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to adapt to the unique needs of this young man. Driving licence and car would be helpful to use when public transport is not an option.

A plan will need to be adhered to and developed by the support buddy. Positive reinforcement is a must as although the young man needs to be out in the community, he will need a great deal of encouragement and patience to encourage this. He will require someone 5 hrs a week. he will initially need to be seen in the home setting first so he can gain confidence in developing a relationship.
