**Academy First Aider**

The Stockwood Park Academy is seeking to appoint an experienced Academy First Aider to work as part of our Pastoral Team.

**Position**: Academy First Aider

**Salary**: L5 point 15-20 £27,803 to £30,296 FTE **Pro-rata £24,167 - £26,334 (**37 hours per week - Term time plus training days) Monday - Thursday 8am-4pm, Friday 8am-3:30pm.

**Effective date**: As soon as possible

**Reporting to**: Designated Safeguarding Lead

**Purpose**:
The Academy First Aider has responsibility for the health and welfare of all students, and to oversee the medical room, maintaining an active and regular point of contact for all students. The Academy First Aider is also responsible for sign-posting students regarding mental and physical needs, co-ordinating and liaising with Trust and Local health colleagues within the community and ensuring all national vaccinations for students are co-ordinated and undertaken in a timely manner. Good communication with parents and carers is a key part of the role as well as delivering relevant and up to date First Aid staff training and producing and overseeing health risk assessments where needed.

**Responsibilities**:
Specific Duties:

- Academy medical Administration
- Co-ordination of the medical room
- Review and referrals of student medical needs
- Communicating, meeting and liaising with parents where necessary
- Communicating and liaising with staff where necessary
- Comprehensive reporting and production of risk-assessments
- Staff training in all aspects of First Aid
- Student training in agreed aspects of First Aid
- Ensuring the security and delivery of controlled medicine alongside ensuring all medications are in date
- Organise and deliver the immunisation programme within school in conjunction with the NHS school immunisation teams
- To be part of the health and safety committee - preparing reports of tracking and analysing trends
- Ensuring the first aid and medical room is compliant with all health and safety regulations
- Ensuring students with medical needs have the correct risk assessments in place and are part of the Individual Healthcare Plan

**Clinical and First Aid**
- Attending to pupils who are taken ill during the school day
- Maintaining communication with relevant external agencies as required; GP, Health Visitors, CAMHS, etc.
- Have direct links with the School Nursing Service and support students who require a referral
- Providing first aid during home sports fixtures.
- Providing first aid to staff.
- Safe storage of medication for the Academy.

**Training & Compliance**
- Ensuring relevant training is provided to all staff in respect of the giving and storing of medicines
- Ensuring relevant training is provided to all staff in respect of reporting procedures of slip trips and falls
- Ensuring that all medical records are maintained and kept up to date
- Preparing and reviewing Academy medical policies, ensuring compliant with regulatory requirements
- Maintaining first aid equipment throughout the Academy
- Ensuring that all School ‘First Aider’ staff are competent and have undertaken training and that qualifications are valid.
- Attendance at and reporting to the Trust Health and Safety Committee when required.

**Pastoral**
- Supporting the role of the pastoral teams
- Pro-active role within the safeguarding team
- Being a keyworker to students with identified medical needs
- Attendance at key events, Open Evening, Parents evening & Transition events etc.
- Ensuring that relevant information relating to student’s medical needs are shared when required, including school trips, exam situations, Trust reports etc
- Attend any meetings as directed by the SENCO and DSL to support students with medical needs
- Ensure that any students with an Individual Health Care Plan
