**About the Leather Conservation Centre**
The Leather Conservation Centre (LCC) was founded in 1978 to conserve historic leathers and create a hub for research, education, development, and training relating to the conservation of leather.
The LCC has an international reach and is recognised for its expertise and research in the preservation and conservation of leather and related materials. The organisation works with a wide range of clients and collaborators including national and international museums, universities, independent crafts practitioners, and private clients. Part of the LCC’s remit is to deliver practical conservation treatment to objects made wholly or partly of leather or related materials, as well as providing advice and guidance regarding care and storage.
Alongside practical conservation work, the LCC endeavours to increase awareness and provide education in all areas of leather conservation and historic leather technology through specialist professional and public courses. In addition, the LCC carries out research projects to advance knowledge in these areas and develop new conservation techniques.
In 2019 the LCC moved to temporary premises in Northampton town centre alongside the Museum of Leathercraft. This studio is equipped with specialist equipment to facilitate a range of conservation treatments. We are now in the process of developing the work of the LCC to enable the move to a new larger bespoke studio in Leicester.
