Process safety is one of the three pillars of our Health, Safety & Well-being strategy (Personal Safety and Health & well-being are the other two). This role is required to further develop the function from theory and principles through risk reduction approaches and onto implementation and tracking via performance indicators.

Reporting to the Lead Health and Safety Business Partner (Process Safety). You will be responsible for helping the business in controlling risks and reducing incident rates via detailed analysis of current performance and the delivery of sustainable improvement plans. You will own and deliver assigned projects. You will develop the process safety framework and use this to guide your approach across the various Directorates. The embedment and role out of the process safety management system across United Utilities high hazard sites is the main driver for this role.

**Job Accountabilities**:

- Ownership of the Process Safety Performance Indicators for your area, support and development of action plans in the event of declining performance.
- Investigation of any process safety Incidents to identify true root causes.
- The embedment of the process safety management system across our high hazard sites, via plans that can be tracked through to completion and reported on.
- Ownership and delivery of assigned projects for process safety improvement activities, for example control of work improvements, Isolations etc.
- To support your nominated area in the development and implementation of training plans, competency and capability requirements for employees to enhance awareness, engagement and capability.
- To support the delivery and adoption of a structured process safety management system across United Utilities.
- To ensure that the true root causes of accidents and incidents have been identified and that remedial actions are tracked to completion within the nominated area of support.
- Manage the relationship with internal stakeholders at a range of levels throughout the business.
- Liaise and build relationships with external regulators such as the HSE and Environment Agency with regards to process safety incidents and improvements.
- Lead on the COMAH intervention visits and embed learning into management system procedures and ways of working
- Demonstration of implementation plans and progress for supported areas.
- Agreed action plans in place and tracked during relevant meetings.

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Degree level educated. Working towards or having recently obtained a post-graduate qualification (e.g. chartered status).
- Knowledge of H&S management systems and experience of practical implementation.
- Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of effective communication with stakeholders from board to site.
- Ability to communicate and present to senior level, both internally and externally, in meetings and in writing.
- Experience of working within a unionised environment and having forged strong partnerships.
- Full driving licence required
