A fantastic opportunity has arisen at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust for a Ward Clerk to join our intensive care unit (ICU). We have just been voted ICU Trust Of The Year by the Intensive Care Society.

The role is for 4 days a week (30 hours a week) with potential to increase to full time in the future as the service develops.

We are looking for a caring, friendly and highly motivated individual who thrives in a challenging and dynamic environment to be employed as a ward clerk to support the nursing and medical teams.

Led by the ICU Administrative Team Manager, you will work as part of a clerical team, alongside a highly skilled team of medical and nursing professionals.

Main Duties
- To answer calls in a polite manner, ensuring all relevant messages are relayed to the appropriate team
- Greet all visitors to the Unit in a helpful and polite manner
- To assist with any enquiries
- Maintain accurate patient records including admission, transfer and discharge information on the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record system
- To organise patient porters and transport bookings
- To participate in ensuring ward cleanliness and tidiness
- Maintain stock/supplies in accordance with ward requirements
- Take part in ward audits as required and directed by the senior nursing team

Working Pattern

A flexible working pattern will be considered between the hours of 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday

Job Purpose
- The ICU Ward Clerk provides operational and clerical assistance to the Critical Care Unit by undertaking a range of operational activities.
- The post holder works using their own initiative.
- As part of the critical care team, the post holder will work in a highly pressurised acute clinical area where all staff are required to be adaptable and respond to unpredictable situations and workloads.
- The successful applicant will be able to use their own initiative and have an eye for detail.
- The post holder will be responsible for delivering an effective and efficient support service to the Emergency Directorate, to assist in the provision of quality patient care. This will include comprehensive clerical and administrative duties that support the administrative elements of the emergency patient pathway.
