**Job Title: Clerk to Governors**
**Salary: £22 per hour (Casual claim basis)**

**Hours: Approximately 8 hours per week during term time, exact hours to be discussed and agreed on appointment.**
**Accountable to: Governance Manager**
- Our Trust currently comprises of four schools, 3 secondary and 1 primary and educates 3,725 children across the West Yorkshire region. We are currently at a pivotal point in our evolution and are actively looking at different options to ensure we can provide further support to school improvement and the educational experience for staff and students. Therefore, you would be joining us at an incredibly exciting point in our ongoing transformation and journey.
- Role:

- To provide an effective clerking service to the trust’s Local Accountability Boards (LAB’s) and pupil suspension and exclusion panels, providing administrative support as and when required.
- Flexibility is required as there is some evening work to service board/committee meetings, we also have hybrid working options available.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- To have knowledge of the features of effective governance, and the board’s governance structure and core functions.
- To understand the board’s accountability to, and relationship with other bodies (e.g., the Department for Education, Education Skills and Funding Agency (ESFFA) and Ofsted.
- To know the board’s code of conduct and strategic priorities.
- To develop an understanding of the trust’s funding agreement(s), articles of association and LAB constitution and standing orders.
- To know the requirements of charity and company law.
- To liaise with the LAB Chairs and Academy Principals to prepare focused agendas for meetings.
- To distribute the agenda and papers according to the agreed timetable and distribution processes.
- To produce draft minutes of LAB meetings, indicating who is responsible for any agreed action and the relevant timescales, to be checked for accuracy by the Principal and Chair.
- To clerk any pupil suspension and exclusion panels which require governor involvement.
- To check that meetings are quorate, and if not, provide appropriate advice on how to proceed.
- To maintain or help maintain accurate registers (e.g., register of interests and GIAS).
- To keep a record of governors’ attendance.
- To have an eye for detail and excellent proofreading skills.
- To have excellent time management skills and the ability to remain calm and maintain a high standard of work under pressure.
- To maintain a record of signed minutes of meetings.
- To ensure that the LABs are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities and support them in fulfilling these.
- To build effective professional relationships with the board, external contacts, and others.
