Job Title: Plant Biologist

Reporting To: Chief Technology Officer

Contract duration: Open-ended, 6-month probationary period

**Salary**: £40-45k (experience dependent), plus share options

Principal responsibilities:

- To design, set up and test biostimulant performance on annual fruit and vegetable crops as well as broadacre crops.
- Work with chemists and develop targeted AI testing timelines.
- To take part in other company activities and projects as required.

Skills and Experience:

- Educated to a PhD level in plant biochemistry/reproductive development.
- Understanding of broadacre and/or fruiting crop growth requirements and management.
- Understanding of plant physiology, biochemistry, and assessment of physiological components. Complemented by wet-lab based enzymatic assays and sample preparation for LC-MS and spectrophotometric analysis.
- Understanding of statistical methods for data analysis and validation.

Competencies:

- Strong ability to evaluate and solve problems
- Self-starter, capable of working in a small team as well as independently.
- Willing to work flexibly, guided by plant growth milestones.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines.
- Work to high standards and detail-oriented.

About SugaROx

SugaROx is a joint venture spinout company between Rothamsted Research and Oxford University formed in 2020 that is commercialising a biostimulant product based on the plant signalling sugar trehalose-6-phospate, first published in _Nature_ (2016).

Applicants must be willing to work in the Harpenden (Hertfordshire) area.
