The post holder will be responsible for assisting the NHS Eligibility Manager with the day to day management of the identification and assessment of overseas patients in terms of their NHS eligibility.

The post holder will act as a point of contact for any queries from, staff, patients, relatives and other NHS organisations regarding eligibility to free treatment.

This post would ideally suit someone who has strong communication skills, able to use their own initiative and work well on their own as well as part of a team. They must be able to work well under pressure with excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
- Interpret and implement all Trust Policies and Procedures relating to Overseas Visitors and ensure strict adherence to the latest government legislation.
- Promote awareness of the service throughout the Trust and provide training where appropriate.
- Provide information to Department of Health, management, Home Office and other NHS/government bodies as required.

Policy & Procedures
- Interpretation of Department of Health (DH) guidelines and regulations to make decisions as to whether patients are exempt or liable for charges.
- Maintain an awareness of key legislation relating to Overseas Visitors and to review policies and guidelines for NHS Foundation Trust accordingly.
- Liaise with Immigration and DH where necessary and as permitted and keep up to date with any changes in legislation.

Implementation & awareness of policies
- Produce communications to make patients aware of the Trust’s policy on Overseas Visitors.
- Plan and carry out teaching sessions to ward staff and other departments and agencies in regard to Overseas Visitors’ status checks

Finance
- Provide appropriate advice to patients and relatives regarding their status and costs of treatment.
- Secure payment/deposits for treatment before the patient is discharged where possible.
