**The Role and the Department**

The Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR) was established by Durham University in 2007. It is a multi-disciplinary institute supporting researchers from across Durham University and beyond to make a difference in how people live with emerging hazards and risks.

Reporting to the IHRR Manager, the Administrator will be a committed, enthusiastic professional who relates well to people at all levels. They will be expected to demonstrate a high level of initiative and be confident in dealing with diverse groups, including donors, visiting researchers, Heads of Faculties, Departments and Colleges, and research groups across the University.

The Administrator will be expected to work flexibly to deliver exceptional administrative support and guidance to the Institute staff and its stakeholders. Working closely with senior IHRR staff and colleagues, they will take responsibility for the fundamental and general Institute administrative services, as well as organising events and research activities, creating and maintaining financial records, purchasing items, booking travel and accommodation, and servicing meetings. The role will also manage and develop the Institute’s profile through the website and social media. You must be able to work independently as well as part of a team and keep calm under pressure. The Administrator will also provide administrative support to the Biophysical Sciences Institute (BSI) and the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing (WRIHW). Task assignments will be overseen through the IHRR Manager in consultation with the appropriate officers from BSI and WRIHW on a need’s basis.
