**About the Legal Team**

The legal team is part of the Regulatory Enablers cluster within Ofwat: a group of cross cutting teams that work across Ofwat to enable our regulatory work. We work with all clusters within Ofwat, predominantly as fully integrated team members, to help evolve and deliver Ofwat's strategy, whilst navigating and managing legal risk. We pride ourselves on providing high quality, timely, solutions-focussed advice, clearly, simply and concisely.

**Job description**:
**The role**

We have a vacancy for a Principal Legal Adviser either on a permanent basis; or on a loan or secondment basis for a period of up to 2 years.

The role will see you providing high quality, timely, solutions focussed legal advice. You'll be working, working flexibly across the range of work, from longer-term policy projects to urgent, ad hoc matters requiring an immediate response.

You’ll be expected to demonstrate good judgement and to exercise it responsibly across complex issues. You will need to provide leadership in the delivery of decisive legal input in contentious, strategically important and complex matters.

In line with our values, we'll expect you to provide support to colleagues within the legal team and across the office, proactively sharing skills and knowledge and supporting others in doing this. Equally we'll support you with coaching and mentoring.

You will also contribute proactively to our continuing organisational improvement to ensure that the whole of Ofwat is always the best that it can be in line with its SAILOR values.

The primary focus of the role will be as set out under the Key Deliverables below, although there may also be other areas of Ofwat's work where advice may be requested.

Key expected deliverables
- Providing legal advice to the RAPID team on all aspects of their work - more about RAPID's work here; and
- Advising on wider work in relation to infrastructure delivery, including on commercial, planning and environmental issues (including price control implications), for instance in relation to water resource management plans, drainage and waste water management plans, the Water Industry National Infrastructure Programme, and Direct Procurement for Customers projects - more about Direct Procurement for Customers here.

In these contexts, you will be expected to:

- Provide high quality, timely and solutions-focussed strategic legal advice across a number of clusters, workstreams and projects on complex matters;
- Be fully involved in helping policy teams develop and deliver strategically focussed policy which are legally robust; and
- Support Ofwat’s relationships with external law firms and legal counsel, other regulators and government.
