The post-holder will contribute to the optimum delivery of care to women and babies by assisting all clinical staff and to deliver care in a manner sensitive to the individual woman’s needs and wishes, acknowledging and respecting their rights and beliefs at all times.
If you would like to join a progressive team committed to supporting women through that special journey to parenthood, we are waiting to hear from you

To assist women to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance following delivery, demonstrating an awareness of their clinical condition and the individuals right to privacy and personal preference. Make a written record on appropriate record charts to any changes in skin appearance, and bodily functions and report the same to the Registered Midwife responsible for the patient.
To assist women with eating and drinking, ensuring they receive appropriate diet and fluids as indicated by their physical condition and personal/cultural preferences. Ensure any intake records are completed in a timely and accurate manner, and report any changes/difficulties to the Registered Midwife responsible for the patient.
Be able to work as a team member.
To perform clerical duties as designated by the Ward Manager.
The posts require the successful applicant to be able to work flexibly, and be fully rotational within all areas of the maternity department. You will be given opportunities to develop the skills required for this interesting and varied role.
Cornwall’s Maternity Services look after 4000 women and their families per year.
Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.
Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways. Please talk to us at interview about any flexible working arrangements you would prefer or require. While we may not be able to fully accommodate all requests, such requests will not be referenced during the interview scoring process, and we will fully consider and try to accommodate them for successful applicants.
Provide support with infant feeding, in line with Trust and Unicef baby friendly policies.
Undertake procedures, following appropriate training and assessment, such as urinalysis and blood pressure monitoring
Provide support with basic routine care of babies and be able to teach new parents the care of the newborn.
To carry out such additional tasks as delegated by the Registered Midwife and once appropriate training has been given such as; undertake venepuncture, cord blood gas analysis, neonatal heel prick sampling, blood glucose monitoring in woman and neonates and be able to complete all the relevant paperwork, and inform the midwife of findings.
