We are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational and motivated Associate Practitioner. The post holder will provide vital support for HCPC registered scientists in providing a professional clinical Tissue Typing (H&I) laboratory service for the cardio-thoracic transplantation program.

Please note the post is currently based at the Harefield site.

The Tissue Typing Laboratory is located on the Ground Floor of the Heart Science Centre, at Harefield Hospital. Laboratory opening hours are from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. The Laboratory is committed to providing a service of the highest quality in line with standards outlined by ISO 15189:2012 and the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI). All work is carried out within the framework of a documented quality system, according to good laboratory and good manufacturing practice (GLP and GMP, respectively). Techniques and procedures are validated, described in standard operating procedures (SOP), and conducted by staff whose proficiency is regularly monitored. The laboratory participates in external quality assurance schemes such as UK NEQAS for H&I.
- To practice as an Associate Practitioner in the Tissue Typing laboratory providing a professional clinical Tissue Typing laboratory service.
- To work as a member of a Departmental Team providing an analytical and scientific service within the Trust’s Tissue Typing Department as directed by Departmental senior staff.
- To participate in the pre-examination processing and logging in clinical samples.
- To participate in the analytical examination using equipment and techniques in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures and policies within the limitations of the grade.
- To contribute to effective patient diagnosis, treatment, research and audit.
- To ensure that any work performed is carried out to the appropriate and agreed standards of timeliness and quality.
- To safely handle, prepare, analyse and dispose of clinical and hazardous material having due regard to confidentiality and safety.
- To assist in quality assurance and audit programmes.
- To deal with enquiries and goods deliveries.
- To maintain stocks and materials.
- To maintain patient confidentiality.
- To have a flexible approach to change and to adapt to new methodology or working-practices due to changing circumstances.
- To improve professional expertise and specialist skills by active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities
- Duties will be performed under the supervision and direction of appropriately qualified staff
