We have an exciting opportunity for a **Student Mental Health Coach** to join the team on a **full time (37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year) permanent** basis. In return,you will receive a competitive salary of **£23,507 (pro rata for Term Time Only £17,583 per annum).**

**About the role**:
As the **Student Mental Health Coach** you will be part of the Student Inclusion and Support team which is a dedicated department within the Student Experience Directorate to help support all aspects of a student’s journey while they are studyingat The Bournemouth and Poole College.

**Responsibilities as ourStudent Mental Health Coachwill include**:

- Assessing and supporting students with common mental health problems in their self-management whilst at college and promoting independence and resilience
- Adhering to the College mental health/wellbeing policy and working within protocols on the admissions procedures, assessments, referral systems and guidelines for tutors
- Liaising both with College staff and external agencies to ensure that students with mental health/wellbeing need access an appropriate learning programme when moving into mainstream college courses
- Making decisionson the suitability of new referrals, adhering to the Colleges referral protocols, and referring students on to the relevant external service as appropriate
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to mental health and another wellbeing/welfare concerns
- Providing input on all issues pertinent to students that have mental health problems e.g., stress or anger management, low self-esteem.
- Creating and delivering workshops and briefings to train/advise teaching staff on wellbeing topics so that they can support students to reach their potential
- Undertaking the duties of a safeguarding officer as part of a wider college rota and ensuring that all students are safeguarded appropriately using the College safeguarding procedure and making internal and external referrals where required.

**As ourStudent Mental Health Coach,you’ll ideally have**:

- The confidence and experience to work successfully with students, staff and external agencies around mental health and safeguarding
- Previous experience working directly with young people that have mental health needs
- 3 years’ experience working closely with Community/NHS Mental Health Teams
- The ability to work with a varied caseload, including students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
- Experience in delivering training in mental health/behaviour issues to peers /staff
- English and maths - Level 2
- The ability to create and maintain accurate records and databases
