**Senior News Editor, Good Morning Britain**

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior News Editor to join the busy team at Good Morning Britain in making three hours of live television each weekday.

To be successful in this role, you will have worked as a News Editor or held a senior newsgathering position with a national TV broadcaster. We require excellent communication skills, strong journalistic judgement and the ability to make confident decisions and prioritise tasks independently.

As a key member of our newsgathering operation, you will be responsible for generating story ideas and treatments, monitoring breaking news and coming up with imaginative guest suggestions. You will guide a team of producers, brief reporters and deploy correspondents.

You will be a team player, able to work closely with our programme editors, planning team and the Head of Input, as well our colleagues at ITN and in the ITV regional newsrooms.

**Responsibilities**
- To stay across the UK and foreign news agenda with a thorough knowledge of running stories and an ability to get across breaking news quickly and confidently
- To support the Head of Input in running the news desk, including briefing producers, crafting VTs, finding guests and live locations
- To deploy reporters and correspondents to news stories in the UK and abroad
- To maintain and enhance GMB’s commitment to diverse coverage by finding new voices and championing underrepresented stories
- To work closely with the programme editors and planning teams to support the daily news and programme needs of each show
- To mentor, train and help develop new members of the team

**Qualifications**
- Excellent editorial judgement and an ability to make quick decisions under pressure
- Proven experience as a TV News Editor or in a senior newsgathering position
- Experience of working with correspondents and reporters including detailed knowledge of packaging, OBs and live reporting
- An excellent understanding of Ofcom regulations, an ability to make informed legal judgements and to handle duty of care commitments
- A good team player with a positive approach to problem solving
- An excellent understanding of the remit and audience of Good Morning Britain

This is a full-time role with a variable roster pattern including evenings, public holidays and alternate Sundays.
