Birmingham, United Kingdom Newman University Birmingham Full time

Full Time £28,929 / Per Annum REF: NU5423

**Full time, fixed term for 22 months**

Newman University, Birmingham in collaboration with Birmingham City Council Public Health are pleased to offer an opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Early Career Research Fellowship. The Fellowship is an exciting opening to support the work of the Birmingham and Lewisham African Caribbean Health Inequalities Review (BLACHIR) and supports the mission and values of the University focusing on social justice, inclusion and delivering transformational education and research.

The review has highlighted specific gaps in research, particularly in relation to impact of culturally competent solutions and interventions contributing to tackling health inequalities affecting Black African and Black Caribbean populations. This post will have an opportunity to explore these and other gaps further.

This Fellowship is in honour of Dr Nicole Andrews whose research provided a depth of understanding of health inequalities present in today’s society. As the Early Careers Research Fellow, you will continue the legacy of Dr Andrews and conduct research into the health inequalities present in Birmingham and how they particularly impact on Black African and Black Caribbean populations. In the role you will champion research aimed at improving understanding of the role that institutional racism plays in health and social care settings, helping mitigate impacts across the life course.

You will work at the University for four days of the week and one day with Birmingham City Council’s Public Health Team. You will be supported and mentored by an experienced academic member of staff from the University.

**Interviews will take place on 6**th** July 2023**

Newman University is located on Genners Lane, Bartley Green, Birmingham, West Midlands, B32 3NT.
