**We are looking for a full time Senior Care Assistant or someone looking to progress to a senior position within 6 months on our day shift team.**

**Must have experience with medication and in a similar role and/or must have at least 2 years experience in care of older people and be medication trained and have a SVQ2.**

**Job Title: Senior Carer**

**Reporting To: Care Team Leader/Manager**

**Job Purpose**: To ensure the staff team deliver a high standard of person centered care to the residents within the home. With particular emphasis on the induction and training of new recruits.

Responsibility when on duty to ensure all residents’ needs are met with regard to personal care and that all people are treated with courtesy and respect.

**SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS**

**Required**:

- Ability to communicate effectively at all times and at all levels
- Ability to supervise directly junior members of staff during their work and provide adequate feedback on their direct care skills
- Genuine interest in working with the relevant client group
- Satisfactory PVG check with Disclosure Scotland
- SVQ level 2 / 3
- Registration with the SSSC (and subsequent maintenance of that registration)
- Hands-on approach to care

**Desired**:

- Care of older people experience
- SVQ Level 3 or SVQ2 (for progression)

**Main Responsibilities**

**Care**
- Through supervision, ensure all staff members maintain high standards and contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the home, and to the creation of an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of the residents.
- In conjunction with the manager, plan mentor shifts with new induction staff, and subsequent on-going monitoring and evaluation of the care.
- Ensure care plan documentation is accurate and demonstrate how to record basic observations, weights, and fluid charts, and recording accurate eating and drinking.
- Undertake general nursing and personal care as appropriate to residents needs, ensure these skills are taught to new recruits and recorded as being taught in each individuals induction booklet.
- Ensure your role is carried out in-line with all current legislation including Protection of Vulnerable Adults.

**Communication**
- Liaise with residents, relatives, and other staff members in the development of activities for residents which will enhance their quality of life.
- Liaise with the cook/chef to ensure that the serving of food meets required standards, and the dietary needs of residents.
- Produce reports (verbal or written) as and when required.
- Undertake client placement reviews when requested.

**Budgetary/Financial Control**
- Ensure that all commodities used in and around the home are sensibility conserved by all staff members.

**Human Resources**
- Adhere to all HR policies and procedures.
- Implement and initiate induction for new staff members.

**Marketing**
- Ensure the home is attractively presented and odour free, at all times.

**Training and Development**
- Undertake general nursing and personal care as appropriate to resident needs; ensure these skills are taught to new recruits and recorded as being taught in each individuals induction booklet.
- Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend mandatory training days and courses, on or off site, as and when required.

**Health and Safety**
- Understand and ensure the implementation of the companies Health & Safety Policy and Emergency Fire procedures.
- Promote and teach safe working practice within the home.

**General**
- Adhere to SSSC guidelines and Codes of Conduct.
- Aid in the investigation of complaints as and when required.
- Report any untoward incident(s) in the home to the manager without delay.
- Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of work is not divulged to third parties.
- Maintain correct records of your working hours.
- Notify the Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Ensure the security of the home is maintained at all times.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
- Show courtesy and respect to residents at all times to ensure that they enjoy the highest quality of life. Respect the confidentiality of residents and their families at all times and involve families and friends in the residents care and develop their trust.
- Carry out any other task which may be reasonably assigned to you.
