Role description:
As a Senior / Project Cost Consultant will join a team of cost managers and project managers on a variety of projects in the nuclear sector. Your role will lead on the formation of effective category / commercial strategies, contract procurement, commercial administration of contracts during the execution phase to help support the safe delivery of value for money solutions of our client’s programme, projects and business objectives.

The Senior / Project Cost Consultant provide a professional commercial support service to the client’s programme / project teams through the efficient identification, procurement and administration of contracts, identifying and controlling costs and commercial risks & opportunities in support of the Programme / Project Execution Plans. As part of this, you will be responsible for category management of our client’s significant expenditure on the acquisition of goods and services in support of their portfolio of projects.

As key driver in the successful formation and execution of the commercial strategy it is important that relationships are built and maintained with internal and external stakeholders such as Project Manager, Head of Engineering, Head of Projects, Estimating and accounts teams and the selected supply chain.

Role accountabilities:
To provide an efficient and effective Quantity Surveying service to meet all cost and contract management requirements in compliance with relevant company procedures.

To have a thorough understanding and extensive working knowledge of the suite of NEC contracts

To participate in project reviews and audits and conduct self-assessments of the Cost Management arrangements to ensure compliance is achieved with company procedures and contractual obligations.

Give support and advice on the production of ITT documents including collation of Works Information and other contract documents. Advise the PM with managing the tender assessment process and review and any negotiations with the Contractor

Provide, in conjunction with the estimating function, pre-tender estimates to support tender cost analysis, analyse tenders and issue recommendations

Validate and interrogate supply chain data to assist in accurate cost forecasting and trending and work with the supply chain to understand variances, track expenditure against progress, drive cost accuracy and ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Instigate, lead and perform Defined Cost Audits when required in addition to the monthly assessments required under the contract.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Relevant professional qualification or chartered status with a relevant professional institution i.e. RICS, CIPS, ICE, CIOB etc.
- Ideally you will have experience delivering projects in the Nuclear sector, however experience working within another regulated environment will be considered i.e. Rail, Defence, Water etc.
- Demonstrable experience with the NEC suite of contracts
- Experience in delivering analysis and insights
- Demonstration of self-management and prioritisation skills with the ability to work under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence stakeholders and third parties
- Capable of taking a project through from inception to completion
