We are currently recruiting for a Head of Adjudication to join our Governance Team on a full time permanent basis.

The post-holder will be legally qualified and will lead in ensuring the effective planning and deployment of the department's resources. It is essential for the post-holder to have a solid understanding of logístical management. The post-holder will also ensure that the department's staff and activities are aligned with ACCA's commitment to delivering public value and with its wider strategy.

**The Job**
- Oversee the activities of the adjudication function to enable ACCA to fulfil its regulatory functions effectively, including managing the review of case papers and the effective operation of ACCA's disciplinary and regulatory committees
- Design and implement procedures to ensure that all adjudication functions are carried out in a timely manner
- Ensure the provision of advice to the investigations team on the conduct of investigations, evidential issues and drafting allegations
- Co-operate with the Regulatory Board to enable it to carry out its oversight role, on behalf of Council, of the functioning of ACCA's regulatory processes
- Liaise with the FRC accountancy scheme and other public interest disciplinary schemes regarding both the overall frameworks of the schemes and cases involving ACCA members
- Provide high quality information and support to the Appointments Board and ensure its effective management in terms of meetings, minutes, reports and statistics in line with pre-agreed procedures and deadlines
- Ensure appropriate processes are in place at all stages of the adjudication process in order to comply with lead regulator and ACCA Regulatory Board requirements
- Manage the resources of the department in an effective manner and in line with a resource plan, which the post-holder will devise
- Minimise risk by ensuring appropriate training and briefing for staff
- Maintain an appropriate internal complaints-handling procedure for dealing with complaints against the department and oversee dealing with such complaints where they involve threats of legal action or press contact
- Maintain budgetary oversight for the costs associated with the delivery of the adjudication function
- Ensure there is an appropriate exchange of regulatory information with other departments
- Help ensure the work of the department is explained to complainants, members, students, affiliates and firms
- Provide leadership to the department in promoting ACCA's values, culture, competences and desired behaviours
- Support the Governance Executive Directorate generally in fulfilling its obligations.

**The Person**
- A successful track record of, or an aptitude for, managing process-based operations and for devising processes which maximise efficiency
- An understanding of good regulatory practice, and the Better Regulation principles
- An understanding of how the adjudication function underpins ACCA's reputation, its commitment to delivering public value and its wider strategy
- An ability to plan effective resource utilisation, including determining the appropriate mix of in-house skills and the extent to which outsourcing is used
- The ability to calibrate of the level of resource/quality required on different case / committee types in relation to their severity and the other the risks they pose
- A commitment to scrupulous fairness and impartiality in adjudication matters
- Absolute integrity and the ability to embed integrity throughout the department
- Personal alignment with ACCA's values and strategy
- The ability to demonstrate resilience and strong character in the face of hostile challenges to the way in which the department handles its functions
- An all-round team player, with the ability to build effective collaborative relationships with peers
- The ability to articulate a clear and compelling departmental vision, and the leadership qualities necessary to build esprit de corps and to achieve Best Companies 1* (or above) or equivalent ranking of the department.
