Applications are invited for a full time Research Assistant post (19 months fixed term), with a degree or equivalent experience, based at Social Science Research Park (SPARK), located on Cardiff Innovation Campus, Cathays.
- There is a strong case for hospital-based violence intervention programmes (HVIPs) based in Emergency Departments (EDs). HVIPs have recently emerged as a public health response to violent victimisation, but despite interest in HVIPs there has been no rigorous evaluation of this public health approach to violence in the UK. The overarching aim of the proposed work is an effectiveness and cost-effectiveness study of an ED based Violence Prevention Team (VPT).
- The role will involve supporting data analysis and interpretation, working with statutory and third sector organisations to understand service provision, contributing to research papers and supporting the projects engagement with stakeholders including survivors.-
- This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term for a period of 19 months and available from 1st October 2023 to 31st April 2025.**Salary**: £33,332 - £34,980 per annum (Grade 5) - Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances, however for this post, the starting salary is capped at £32,332 per annum (Grade 5.25) due to limited funding.**Date advert posted: Tuesday, 1 August 2023**

**Main function**

To support the evaluation of Violence Prevention Teams (VPTs). VPTs are located in Emergency Departments (EDs) and aim to support patients attending with assault-related injuries to access support that addresses the factors that exposed them to violence.**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Specific Duties**
- To contribute to the study protocol and it’s publication
- To contribute to realising study outputs for publication
- To contribute to developing study methods and outcomes with Public and Patient Involvement groups
- To assist with the curation and analysis of study data
- To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field
- To contribute and support research funding bids as required

**Research**
- To undertake research, e.g. by planning, preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments /field work/desktop research/questionnaires
- Actively participate within the research group, communicating and presenting research at meetings, through publications and other recognised avenues as appropriate, ensuring information is communicated to internal and external partners
- To contribute and support research publications and presentations as required
- To analyse and communicate complex ideas, concepts and data using appropriate methods and packages
- To resolve issues and support colleagues in devising procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- To generate research output and contribute to the development of independent and original ideas as appropriate
- To maintain and update area of specialist knowledge, researching and critically appraising relevant literature within the area.

- To engage effectively with public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the project and to cultivate strategically valuable alliances.
