The post holder will work closely with all of the members of the Radiopharmacy team particularly the Chief Technician and will regularly work in collaboration with Medical Physics, Nuclear Medicine and Pharmacy staff

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Radiopharmacy team at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, London. We are a licensed Radiopharmacy unit supplying key radiopharmaceuticals to the Nuclear Medicine Imaging departments within our trust and to a number of external hospital sites. Our service includes a range of activities from the aseptic preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and blood cell radioisotope labelling for the purposes of diagnostic imaging, batch manufacture, clinical trials, and quality control laboratory activities.

The Radiopharmacy forms part of the Nuclear Medicine department which relies on close working relationships between a number of different staff groups including scientists, pharmacy technicians, imaging technologists, physicists and clinicians.
1. To prepare trays of raw materials and consumables for the following session of Technetium (Tc) Dispensing activities.

1. To undertake transfer sanitation of raw materials and consumables into the isolator rooms and isolators following internal procedures.

1. To undertake cleaning and monitoring of the isolators following internal procedures to ensure the equipment is fit for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and radiolabelling of blood products.

1. To package radiopharmaceuticals for transport to St Thomas’ Hospital and external customers in accordance regulations.

1. To perform daily quality control monitoring of the facilities and equipment. To collect and label in-process environmental monitoring plates and to place them in the pharmacy QC incubators on the day following the dispensing session.

1. To top-up on a weekly basis the consumable shelves and any other disposables that are essential to the functioning of the radiopharmacy unit. Batch numbers and expiries are to be logged and that you must ensure there is adequate stock rotation.

1. To assist in maintaining adequate stock control of raw materials and consumables for the radiopharmacy unit.

1. To assist in the correct filing and processing of documentation associated with all radiopharmacy dispensing and blood labelling activities.

1. To assist in the maintenance, cleaning and general housekeeping of the radiopharmacy unit in line with written procedures.

1. To be responsible for ensuring all clean room clothing is processed correctly and in a timely way. To ensure the clothing is packed, left for collection and picked up following the procedure.

1. To ensure safe disposal of radioactive, non-radioactive and biological waste.

1. To undertake other duties as required in order in maintaining a safe, efficient and effective provision of radiopharmaceutical services at the request of the Head of Nuclear Medicine.
