**Hours: 37.5 hours per week - Includes some weekend working, as per rota. (One Saturday in Five - Saturday working hours 9:30 - 3:30) Normal working hours 8:30 - 4:30.**

**Background and service**:
Kaleidoscope is an innovative substance misuse treatment provider that delivers quality community and residential services across Wales and England. Birchwood is our flagship residential treatment unit that provides evidenced-based and medically managed detoxification services to dependent alcohol and drug users.

The unit has capacity for 20 bed spaces and provides both clinical and therapeutic treatment packages. Referrals are accepted from community drug and alcohol services across the UK For alcohol dependence, Birchwood supports service users who are assessed as suitable for residential detoxification, providing a safe and supervised withdrawal from alcohol.

Service users will be screened for clinical dependence in line with ICD-10 diagnostic criteria to assess suitability, using the Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (SADQ).

For Opiate dependence, Birchwood supports service users who are assessed as suitable for residential detoxification using methadone, buprenorphine and Clonidine.

**Role Purpose**:
The post holder will be a Registered Nurse RMN or RGN who has completed the V300 Independent and Supplementary Prescriber course; and is currently registered as an Independent Prescriber. They will have working knowledge and experience of both drug and alcohol detoxification and treatment programmes with an understanding of both clinical and psychosocial aspects of care.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of clinical treatment services, working closely and in partnership with clinical, therapeutic and support staff in order to deliver a package of integrated, holistic support. They will take a lead role in defining prescribing plans for patients admitted to the unit and will act as a point of contact for colleagues around prescribing issues.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
The NMP will:

- Assist with prescribing practices and ensure that service users are assessed effectively.
- Deliver onsite dispensing and supervision of substitute opiate medication.
- Deliver clinical interventions, including HCV testing, HBV immunisation and naloxone training/administration where appropriate and in partnership with Local Health Board and PHW colleagues.
- Deliver subcutaneous injection of buprenorphine (Buvidal).
- Ensure that health promotion and wellbeing is embedded into the delivery of services
- Engage and contribute to Continued Professional Development and Clinical Supervision.
- Provide advice, information, and guidance on the management of substance misuse to service users engaged with services.
- Respond to service users presenting with a range of acute complex and chronic medical conditions. Providing advice guidance and expertise to the wide multidisciplinary team.
- Deliver medicines management and enhanced safe prescribing in the community.
- Provide an agreed number of clinics for review and commencement of treatment as appropriate across Kaleidoscope services to assist in the continuation of care for prison leavers and the access to OST for those commencing services.
- Maintain accurate clinical records as per policies and procedures.
- Contribute to Key Performance Indicators and outcomes monitoring reporting.
- Liaise with external services / agencies to ensure service users are supported and accessing appropriate health care within the community.
- Ensure safeguarding response is robust and in accordance with local and national policies.
- Investigate clinical complaints and feedback and provide learning opportunities to help reduce occurrence.
- Provide safe working environments reporting health and safety risks and their response.
- Support and contribute to service user involvement and engagement events.
