**The Role**

The Rural Surveyor role will work within a team of dedicated property professional supporting Senior Estate surveyors with the delivery of estate management tasks and advise associated with the management of 12,000 ha of lowland heathland, agricultural land and woodland primarily freehold retained by the MOD for military training.

The Defence estate is one of the largest landholdings in the UK and covers an estimated 1.8% of the UK land mass (200,000+ ha). This is complemented by a significant UK Defence presence overseas.

Estates are the in-house real estate team within the DIO (part of the UK Ministry of Defence) supporting infrastructure needs across a high-profile Public Estate. We acquire, manage, safeguard, and dispose of Defence real estate. Our unique customer knowledge and insight of the Defence Estate enables our in-house team of property professionals to provide in-depth advice to our Military customers.

**Person specification**:
**Main responsibilities**:

- Daily input into the management of the MOD Training Areas and Ranges in primarily in Surrey, Northeast Hampshire, Kent, Sussex, Salisbury Plain and Yorkshire.
- Daily contact with DIO colleagues managing the provision of military training as well as the property management team and delivery contractor.
- Responding to enquiries from tenants and authorised users and the public.
- Managing and working with both internal and external stakeholders such as Natural England, Defra, County Wildlife Trusts, property developers, adjoining landowners, local authorities, utility companies and the general public.
- Tasks to include managing the tenanted estate, agricultural and commercial agreements. site inspections, third party easements and wayleaves, conservation management, disposals, management of public access, Income generation, management of short-term casual use license agreements and ad hoc use of the estate.
- Attend face to face and online meetings as required with colleagues, contractors, military authority.

The role will involve regular travel within their respective region and occasionally UK wide for meetings and/or site inspections. If travelling outside your base location for duty reasons, you will have access to hire cars, rail tickets and overnight accommodation. You can also claim 45 pence per mile should you choose to use your own vehicle for business travel.

All employees work in accordance with the established DIO approach to hybrid working (an informal, non-contractual arrangement, blending attendance in the office or on-site and working remotely) and will be provided with IT equipment, desk, and chair to facilitate remote working and any other equipment needed for you to undertake your role.

**Essential Membership Requirements**

**Desirable Experience & Skills**
- Working in a Defence environment.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Full membership of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV).

**Environmental Factors / Hazards Associated with the Post**

**Licences**:

- A full driving licence. Post holders will be required to travel to the sites covered by the post on a regular basis and some sites are difficult to access via public transport.**Qualifications**:
