Theatre Porters at Northampton General Hospital are a vital important part of the theatre team. You will be required to undertake Theatre Portering duties for all Theatre areas and associated departments, providing a professional and quality service to all users.
This will include the safe transportation of patients to and from wards to operating theatres using wheelchairs, trolleys and beds. The movement of equipment, collection of waste bags, laundry, collecting items, delivering samples/specimens and maintaining the standards of cleanliness within operating theatres and associated areas and other general duties that occur are some of the duties undertaken by a porter.

You will work alongside our Theatre teams to provide vital support to the different Theatre departments 24/7.
The Operating Theatres at Northampton General Hospital are currently looking to recruit enthusiastic persons to join our Theatre Portering team, who provide and maintain a professional, efficient, effective and timely service to patients, visitors and departments within the Directorate of Theatre and Anaesthetics. You will work alongside our Theatre teams to provide vital support to the different Theatre departments.
Experience in this type of role is beneficial but is not essential as full training will be given. We provide a 24 hours a day, 365 days per year service which includes weekends and bank holidays.
A flexible approach to work, smart appearance, good communication skills, good fitness and a high standard of customer care is required.

Porters are a crucial part of the theatre department and are expected to cover the theatre areas 24/7. The job is a physically demanding role in main moving patients and equipment around the entirety of the hospital.
The Porters role varies on a daily basis and will involve the following tasks.
To assist with the transportation of patients from the wards and day surgery unit into the operating theatre.
To communicate with all patients that are being transported within the hospital in a sensitive and tactful manner, whilst building a rapport. Ensuring they understand any instructions to maintain their safety whilst being transported.
Transport patients within the hospital in conjunction with Trust policies and departmental procedures
Assist with the positioning of patients for surgical procedures
Cleaning of the theatres area
Transporting theatre equipment around the hospital to areas where it is needed.
Collection of blood and delivery of specimens
Disposing of of waste both household and clinical
Any other duties as required to meet the needs of the service and assist in providing the best possible care for patient
The role can be physically demanding and on average approx 6-8 miles are walked each shift very often pushing a load so physical fitness is very important.
