Job description

This post presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the blended delivery of statistical learning across MSc programmes in psychology, statistical modelling, and health informatics at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. You will join an enthusiastic and expanding team that consistently delivers world-class educational experiences, highly-rated by students.

The role will involve both online and on-campus education duties, supporting the delivery, design, and evaluation of training in applied statistical methods at postgraduate level. The successful applicant will use various teaching formats, as required, including lectures, workshops, tutorials, and practical sessions. It is crucial for the postholder to have the ability to clearly articulate statistical techniques to students in psychology and psychiatry.

You will have the opportunity to co-lead modules and develop statistics teaching curriculum. In addition, the postholder may provide support for student research projects, undertake education-related administrative responsibilities, contribute to assessments and marking, and support the pastoral care of our students.

This position is dedicated to teaching with 100% of your time focused on educational activities.

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.

Key responsibilities

Development and delivery of education:
Contribute to online and on-campus education (teaching, tutoring and supervision).

Enable the delivery of blended learning through the development and integration of novel teaching resources and activities.

Prepare accessible teaching resources and generate your own teaching materials, as required.

Co-lead modules and/or develop teaching curricula for postgraduate students.

Mark assessments and provide feedback in a timely manner.

Engage with the student body to ensure high levels of student satisfaction.

Provide support and supervision of MSc student research projects.

Provide mentoring and pastoral care to students, in terms of advice on learning objectives and acquisition of skills.

Undertake various administrative responsibilities as required. This will include areas such as assessment of progress, student attendance, teaching quality, student experience and participating in Faculty and School meetings.

Knowledge exchange:
Dissemination of teaching innovations and initiatives to the wider Faculty.

Engage in, and contribute to, pedagogical research.

Academic citizenship and management:
Enable a diverse and inclusive work and education environment in line with the Faculty’s policies.

Adhere to Faculty and College guidelines and regulations, implementing new requirements as they arise, and incorporating best practice from the wider Higher Education sector.

Work within the health and safety laws and other college frameworks.

Perform academic and administrative duties to a high standard.

Participate in professional development activities where appropriate.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

3. Experience with statistical software packages, including SPSS and at least one syntax-based software (such as R, Python, or Stata).

5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

6. A high level of computer literacy.

7. Strong interpersonal skills relevant to teaching and pastoral support of students.

8. Ability to interact with staff and students.

9. Demonstrable understanding, and commitment to, working within the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable criteria

1. Experience using online teaching platforms such as Moodle.

2. Experience of developing online learning resources.

3. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or equivalent teaching qualification.
