**A bit about us**
Here at Somerset County Council we are looking for a talented **Finance Officer**.

You’ll be joining our Business Partnering Team - who champion and deliver financial practice and management and help budget holders to manage their budgets effectively and responsibly.

There are over 100 of us in our wider Finance team, from apprentices working towards qualification, to qualified, highly experienced accountants. Together, we support the whole of the council, its service areas and key partnerships, to help deliver services more effectively.

Your continued professional development is important to us - full training is provided for this role and you will be well supported by your manager and team with regular one to ones.

**Here's what you can expect to be doing**
We have a number of service areas we could allocate you to support
- this will depend on your preference, skills and experience. Our service areas you could potentially support are Public Health, Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, Schools and Education Services or Economic Infrastructure & Community and Customers, Digital and Workforce.

You’ll be responsible for working with managers to prepare revised and forward year estimates, monitoring expenditure throughout the year, and producing and developing financial reports.

A key element of the roles will be working with managers to improve financial controls, identifying where improvements and efficiencies can be made and driving forward their implementation, checking third party claims and grant claims and working with various stakeholders and providing challenge when required.

**A few things about you**
You’ll be a good fit for our Finance Officer role if you:

- Have experience of Financial/Budget monitoring
- Have worked in a finance environment and dealing with complex accounting and statutory reporting issues
- Are a natural communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff at all levels

If you have experience of providing support to front line services and across multiple agencies and stakeholders this would be a bonus - but it’s not essential.

**Additional information**
From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.

The salary for this role is £24,946 to £27,852 per annum (starting salary dependent on experience)
