Key Tasks

Product owner will facilitate improved mobile services for the university through the development and implementation of the product road-map.

Define the overall strategy for their university's mobile offerings. This might include determining which platforms to focus on or deciding which features will be prioritised.

Focus will primarily be on the new student app. This has recently launched and this role will be key to managing an ambitious development plan. The app is built on the Tribal Edge platform and has a native integration into the university's student recordssystem. There are plans for integration's into other systems and for evolving content and functionality offerings.

The Product Owner will be the "voice of the customer" and responsible for day to day stakeholder management of the business owners, Students and Education Directorate.

They will define and own the product road-map, working across the university and with our vendors and strategic partners to bring it to life.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Strategy**
- Contribute to the overall student mobile app strategy and other mobile app
- Create and articulate quantifiable business benefits realisation plans

**Planning**
- Own the product road-map - driven by realising quantifiable user, business and external benefits.
- Managing all aspects of mobile product development, including researching new technologies and trends, creating specifications, designing prototypes, and testing products
- Owning requirements. Identify and capture requirements and split them into functional and non-functional
- Developing new features and functionalities feedback from a wide user-base. This includes internal teams, sponsors, stakeholders, vendors, strategic partners and the external landscape
- Owning risks and issues

**Delivery**
- Collaborating with teams across IT (Project Management, Student Solutions, Business Analysis, Procurement, Digital Solutions) and the university (Students & Education Directorate) to ensure that the app can be built efficiently and effectively
- Forming key relationships with the vendor, Tribal
- Creating detailed project plans including time lines, budgets, and milestones for each stage of development

**Continuous improvement**
- Managing research of users with data-driven techniques to drive the product road-map
- Evaluating competitor products to determine how well they are meeting customer needs and how they might be improved
- Gathering feedback from users about existing products and services to improve them
- Collate and maintain analytics. Understand and translate into meaningful insights to drive further optimisation of product
- Maintenance of app store content
- Managing and realising opportunities offered by OS update cycles

**Operation**
- App store management and distribution planning
- Using service management data to drive operational performance
- Training and on boarding new business users

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential**
- Proven track record of full life-cycle delivery and operation of mobile apps with a focus on product, production, functionality and content.
- App distribution and app store management
- Demonstrable ability to turn requirements into functional specifications
- Experience of working with external delivery partners
- Will have worked in complex organisations. Adept at balancing competing requirements and managing all levels of the business
- Communication to a high standard of verbal and written to multiple audiences
- Experience of working in a product-driven, agile delivery technology environment
- User experience - principles, testing, user-centric design
- Analytics - appropriate use and interpretation of data to drive improvements

**Desirable**
- University work background in digital channel space
- Industry certification - Product Owner or Product Manager
- Familiarity with Tribal SITs platform and other university systems
- Website content and production
- Testing methodologies
