**Your New Role**
National Highways is hiring a Highways Inspector to join our Operations Directorate in the South West. This role will be based from our depot in Wylye, just off the A303, and will be a mix of ‘On Road’ work and time in the Office.
Reporting to the Inspector Team Manager, you will work individually or with another team member to complete asset condition and safety inspections, survey works and signing off on quality of asset repairs.
Working patterns can be flexible by agreement with the team manager but contractually your working hours per week will be 37 hours. There is a requirement to be on call once in every 6-7 weeks, which may involve working unsociable hours to respond to incidents. An on-call uplift payment is included within the basic salary plus a 12.5 % shift allowance.
We also provide a package formal training including NRSWA supervisor and Highway Inspector Lantra / City & Guilds courses.
**You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.**
**What You’ll Be Leading On**:
- Carrying out regular driven Safety Inspections, reporting and raise work requests for high priority safety defects
- Carrying out cyclical and ad-hoc driving and walking asset inspections on the network in line with agreed schedules, procedures and standards, recording all asset conditions and findings (e.g defects and causes)
- Monitoring event signage and illegal signage and escalating any issues
- Supporting regional engineering teams in planning activities by collecting and sharing up to date asset condition and inspection information
- Prioritising health, safety and wellbeing needs of customers and colleagues in in all activities
**To Be Successful**:
- Knowledge or experience of undertaking highways asset condition inspections, OR equivalent inspections experience in other sectors
- Knowledge or experience of highway asset maintenance and legal aspects of highways maintenance/inspection
- Good understanding of Health and Safety applicable to highway maintenance works
- Good IT and data collection skills, ideally with the ability to use data capture devices
- Ability to manage own workload whilst working as part of a team
