Can you evidence an excellent working knowledge of perinatal pelvic health and its importance for the physical and mental health of women and their families? If your answer is yes then we would like to hear from you. Barking Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is part of The North East London Maternity and Neonatal System and has been awarded funding to deliver a Perinatal Pelvic Health Service. This means working right at the front of a national maternity service development programme. If you are successful you will assume the supportive role of developing, organising, delivering and monitoring the pelvic health service as the Band 6 Pelvic Health Midwife for our Trust.You will work in collaboration with the Pelvic Health multi-disciplinary team to embed evidence-based practice in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to prevent and mitigate pelvic floor dysfunction resulting from pregnancy and childbirth. This will include: Strengthening the antenatal education package for women on the likelihood of Pelvic Floor (PF) dysfunction. This will include staff training to introduce a baseline self-assessment of pelvic health around booking, and ensuring understanding, adoption and adherence to Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT) at all antenatal contacts as a preventative measure.
The purpose of this role is to support the implementation of perinatal pelvic health service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. This in line with the NHS Long Term plan commitment to improve access to postnatal physiotherapy services for women. The local ambition is that ALL women have education and advice around pelvic health and access to Physiotherapy services in the postnatal period.
The post holder will be a champion for Pelvic Health and the expectation is that the post holder will be responsible with support for promoting good quality midwifery/ obstetric led interventions which aim to reduce anal sphincter injury and other pelvic health issues across for childbearing women.
Under the leadership of our Chair, Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive we provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south-west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.
We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and this will be one of the many benefits of our closer collaboration with Barts Health. Working with them and with all our partners across north east London, we will find a sustainable solution to enhance patient care.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
