Position Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Macallan Estate as the Estate Labourer. This role will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the agricultural and woodland spaces of The Macallan Estate, including inspection and basic maintenance of EEH and the Ghillies House, while also providing support to the Estate Ghillie and Head Gardener as and when required, ensuring the Macallan Estate maintains a high standard of presentation both internally and externally. The Macallan Estate produces circa 100 tonnes of barley for malting each year, using regenerative agricultural methods and will look to increase the use of livestock as part of this process.

**Job Description**:

- General maintenance and improvements to our customer owned 1000 oaks, maintain and enhance woodland areas as per biodiversity and habitat plan
- Assist the Estate Manager with developing the estate livestock small holding, support the Estate Ghillie with maintenance and improvements to the fishing beat
- Assist the Head Gardener with maintenance and development of immediate guest facing areas, maintain The Estate path networks, fencing and hedgerows
- Assist Estate team in development and implementation of the long-term landscape and habitat plan, maintain the distillery green roof including the irrigation system
- All aspects of high amenity maintenance, such as weeding, pruning, planting, hedge cutting and grass cutting etc. in public facing areas, the main house and distillery surrounds. Work alongside the garden team and external forager, providing knowledge of site native species
- Undertake area development projects as discussed with the Estate Manager, assist delivering the Estate sustainability strategy
- Development and execution of the wider Estate habitat strategy, supporting biodiversity and carbon capture and creating a beautiful natural site for colleagues and guests, ensuring that Estate access and footpath strategy is met
- Coordination of Contractor Management for activities in non-operational areas so that 3rd party activity is safe and considers all potential interactions with Estate experiences and events to minimise impacts and disruption to guests
- Support Estate Manager with all environmental aspects of the Estate management working alongside SHEQ team
- Supervision of agricultural maintenance contractors
- Carry out regular facilities inspections and repairs of onsite accommodation at EEH and GH. Including functional checks prior to guest visits

Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will have a good understanding agricultural and woodland management processes. You have previous experience working with agricultural machinery and with all types of livestock, including rare breeds. Knowledge of regenerative agriculture is advantageous. You have the ability to demonstrate a friendly and professional approach. You are competent in the use of appropriate power tools, lawn mowers, hedge cutting, chainsaws and strimmer’s (training will be provided if required). As this role will require driving around The Macallan Estate, a full clean driving licence is also required. IT skills including Office 365 are desirable. You will also demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and have the ability to take an innovative approach when appropriate.
