Diabetic Eye Screening Wales provides a screening service for the early detection of diabetes related eye disease (diabetic retinopathy), helping to save the eyesight of the population that we screen.

There is an exciting opportunity to join our busy West Wales team, directly delivering screening clinics to patients primarily in the Carmarthenshire/Ceredigion/Pembrokeshire area, but with flexibility to work at clinic venues across South and West Wales. The ability to travel between sites is essential for this role to transport equipment in Diabetic Eye Screening vehicles

This post involves capturing high quality digital images of the retina using specialised cameras. For most sessions you will be accompanied by a Healthcare Assistant, but will also be expected to fulfil the Healthcare Assistant role to deliver clinics in line with service demand. You will be expected to attain a retinal screening Diploma to be able to practice independently but full training and support will be provided.

We are looking for self-motivated, adaptable individuals who can be relied upon to use their own initiative as you will be expected to deal with varying aspects of duties ensuring a consistent integrated and safe approach to patient care. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with a caring and patient-focussed demeanor. An excellent understanding and experience of working with SLR digital cameras is required; with retinal fundus camera experience highly advantageous.

Public Health Wales is the National Public Health Institute in Wales. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
