Location: Blackburn

Desirable experience: Experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting is desirable but the willingness to support and nurture young people with complex needs is a must.

**Salary**: £10.00 - £10.50 per hour (Depending on whether you hold a Level 3/4 diploma) £45 sleep in rate

Job purpose
To contribute to the maintenance and provision of a high quality therapeutic residential service for young people with complex needs. The primary role is to provide safety, security and support to young people and form meaningful relationships and attachments with adolescents is a necessary skill of a Residential Support Worker with the ability to communicate and engage with a variety of multi-disciplinary professionals and stakeholders. As a residential support worker you must be able to demonstrate resilience and work effectively within a team, or independently as and when required. Applicants to the post should be reliable and trustworthy, with a good attendance record.

Accountable To; Team Leaders, Deputy Manager, Registered Manager and Responsible Individual

Managing service delivery
- To be involved in the direct delivery of services to the young people in accordance with the aims of
- Always ensure that the ethos of the statement of purpose is applied.
- Provide a nurturing, therapeutic environment and care, support and supervision to help the child or young person to progress. This includes household tasks, cooking, shopping, laundry and independent living skills to the child or young person.
- To champion for the rights of young people
- To be included on a work rota that provides staff cover on a shift basis. The pattern of these to be determined and planned by the manager to meet the needs of the home
- Adhere to statutory and care policies and procedures.
- To be a key worker where designated and contribute to the child or young person’s plan which reflects his / her care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic and health needs.
- Ensure that this plan is regularly reviewed in conjunction with other team members.
- Be alert to signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that the child or young person is monitored and protected. Work within the safeguarding and child protection guidelines, following the reporting procedures where appropriate.
- Be aware of children’s rights and work in an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive manner.
- Work restoratively with the child or young person and maintain the restorative process. To involve the child or young person in this process and encourage them to be responsible for their actions.
- Assist them to find ways to resolve disagreements and conflict by working restoratively.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with parents and other family members; social workers; school staff and other professionals with a concern for the children’s needs such as general practitioners or psychologists.
- Providing advice, assistance and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties
- Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress
- Ensure young people are consulted about the quality of care they receive. Promote the participation of the child or young person placed at the home.
- Contribute to childcare planning and review meetings when required.
- Ensure that client confidentiality is always maintained and observe data protection guidelines.
