An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Textile Conservator to contribute to and establish the function of têxtile conservation within Royal Collection Trust.

You’ll report to the Deputy Surveyor of The King’s Works of Art and carry out conservation on a wide range of têxtile objects to prepare them for display, mounting in exhibitions and for loans to other institutions.

Based at our Windsor Castle studio you’ll be responsible for all aspects of practical and preventative conservation work on a range of historic têxtiles from the Royal Collection. You’ll provide guidance on care, treatment, and preservation of têxtiles and têxtile objects dating from the seventeenth century to the present day.

You'll collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders to ensure treatments are completed on time and that projects operate smoothly.

Every day your expertise will be relied upon and you’ll be crucial in documenting insights gained during conservation.

You'll be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Textile conservation function, ensuring Health and Safety requirements are consistently met.

- About youWith a degree or equivalent qualification in conservation, and experience in managing conservation projects you're the expert we're looking for.

As a specialist in the treatment of a range of têxtile types you're able to evaluate materials and propose conservation treatments that are practical and represent best practice and are in line with time and budgetary requirements.

In addition, your organisation and time management skills will be vital to prioritise your work to meet multiple deadlines, while remaining flexible with timings if priorities change.

You're an excellent communicator, able to build good working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

Perceptive with great problem-solving skills, we can rely on you to take initiative, have a solutions-based approach, and make decisions when needed.

A good command of relevant IT programmes will be important too.

Above all, you're driven to maintain the very highest standards of conservation care in all that you do.
