University of York, United Kingdom University of York Full time

**Department**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time researcher to join an established multi-disciplinary research team at the University of York. The School of Business and Society has an international reputation for high quality applied research in health and social care. You will be part of a small but dynamic research team undertaking adult social care research.

The group has a range of interconnected projects in progress, mainly funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, based around themes such as self-funding of care, supporting people with dementia (and their families), promoting values-based recruitment in social care and building social care research capacity in local authorities.

The University of York is home to one of the hubs of the National Institute for Health and Care Research’s School for Social Care Research (SSCR).

**Role**:
Based in York, you will play a significant role in the delivery of two key projects - the Curiosity Partnership and Curious About Care - as well as contributing to the wider programme of work within the research team. The role will involve collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and partners, most notably local authorities.

The Curiosity Partnership is an ongoing project that aims to develop and evaluate a regional capacity building network: facilitating greater understanding, use and production of research in adult social care. The post holder will play a key role in the ongoing evaluation of the project and the establishment of a social care academy to boost research skills, knowledge and interest in local authorities.

Curious About Care is a new project during which the research team will design and test situational judgement tests (SJTs) in social care. Research says that SJTs can help with recruiting and retaining people with the right values for the job but they are not used currently widely in social care.

Flexible/ remote working options are available. The School for Business and Society is based in a modern building on the Heslington West campus.

**Skills, Experience & Qualification needed**:

- knowledge of/ demonstrable interest in researching social care for older people
- an understanding of how social care is currently provided in England, and its challenges
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- the ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative
- experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, including research involving people with lived experience
- experience with writing up research for publication, and with developing and conducting research ideas and projects.

Please see full details on the main qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience essential to the post in the ‘person specification’ document.

**The post will start on 1 March 2023 for a period of 26 months. It is a full-time position.**

**Interview date**: 2 or 3 February 2023

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive - a place where we can ALL be ourselves.
